LIVE! At the Croft :: 14th June 2004

  • The Answering Machine Song - Romanovsky and Phillips
  • Satin Skies
  • Guilt Trip - Romanovsky and Phillips
  • Pack up your Troubles (smile smile smile) - Oh! What a Lovely War!
From past experience I knew that the Croft could hold an attentive audience, but you had to work for them! After a frantic search for some girl to appear in 'answering machine' I found a very talented musician called Sarah who went for it with relish. I then played my favourite 'Satin Skies', which is all about the conflicting emotions that are caused by relationships. I then had a crack at Romanovsky and Phillips's other master piece 'Guilt Trip', a tongue in cheek break-up song with vaguely Russian overtones. I finished the evening with a chorus of a World War One song called "Pack up your Troubles", to which someone managed to get the crowd clapping along to. Whoever it was... thank you.

On stage with "The Paperboys" :: 17th April 2004

I went down to Southampton to see The Paperboys live in concert, and was having a grand old time, so I decided to request a song. Not only did they play it, but half way through I was invited onto the stage to help them finish it! I'd had a few beers and had been singing loudly over the P.A. all evening so I probably sounded terrible, but I can think of nothing cooler in the entire world than getting to sing lead vocals for one of your favorite bands!

LIVE! Cabaret :: 16th February 2004

Read my semi-improvised script

This set turned into more of a standup comedy set (read the script and you'll understand) than my usual vaguely folkish alternarock fare, starting with Molinos, a high energy fusion of Mexican and North American music. Then Dreaming (which you can download an early recording of on my music page), followed by a brand new song called BackDream. It was a bit of an eclectic set of songs, but they went down reasonably well. It's always nice to have people listen to and enjoy some of my more serious music!
