"This is one of my big favourites on this album. Kirk and I were driving down the east coast of the South Island of New Zealand when we passed a Seal Colony, just north of an old whaling town called Kaikura. We were so inspired that we sat there for three hours and wrote the following lyrics, although writing the music to fit was like pulling teeth" We're heading south,
dividing cliffs from sea (Because the) road turns
left, the road curves right Out on the rocks, we'll
watch the seals sleeping (Because the) road turns
left, the road curves right Streaking through the sky
and asking why am I feeling lonesome? Smell Salty air, kelp
dances in the foaming (Because the) road turns
left, the road curves right |
